De Cellekens / Kunstatelier

Located in the centre of Mechelen is the historic, listed building known as De Cellekens or ‘The Cells’, originally a charitable institution founded by a rich benefactor where single, needy women and widows could live in a community. More recently it was turned into a centre for art and culture. Artist Mariette Teugels’ sculptures are on display in the beautiful enclosed garden.
